Judge assignment is now a secret

The Social Security Administration has announced that assignment of judges will now be secret. This means that claimants will not know who their judge will be a the hearing until the time of the hearing. This is unheard of in a judicial system and seems to be a violation of Due Process. We do not know how long this policy will continue.

What a week

What a week this has been. The week actually began last Friday with a happy story. Our good client, Robert, got approved for benefits. He was days away from losing his house to foreclosure. Thanks to my staff, he got approved for benefits and received enough back pay to catch up on his house payments.

The week continued on Monday with hearings in Lubbock. Then, off to Roswell, New Mexico, for hearings with Judge Perkins. Judge Perkins agreed to give benefits to both clients, including Mearl, the sweetest claimant you would ever hope to meet.

Wednesday was back to Lubbock for five more hearings. What a busy day. Judge Marcy agreed that all five claimants were disabled. David, a 40 year old, has severe hip problems that have required two prior surgeries, and he needs another. Samuel has foot, back, and hip problems. I honestly feel so sorry for both of them. They are in constant pain, and simply can’t work. They made me remember how fortunate I am to be able to do what I do. Kelly was approved by Social Security, but for some unknown reason, they wanted to screw her out of a year of benefits. Judge Marcy agreed that she was disabled the entire time and gave her benefits back to 2009.

Thanks to all of my claimants who allowed me to serve them this week.
